So today I found out I was one of ten finalists picked for the David Nieper project! Which is all very exciting. The brief was open, we were asked to design a collection of 4 outfits, Day wear, Evening wear, Cruise wear and Night wear. The brand is aimed at the over 50's which was a challenge as I hadn't designed for the older woman before, but I actually really enjoyed it. I looked at gardens and summer walks for my inspiration as my market research confirmed that these were popular ways over 50's spend their leisure time. Experimenting with different flowers was fun, I used a technique called Flower Pounding, which is literally where you hammer a flower on top of a piece of fabric, this causes the colour from the flower to transfer onto the fabric, which created some beautiful results and inspired the prints for my designs. As well as this I looked into natural dyes, experimenting with Red Cabbage (which actually dyes fabric blue..), Pomegranate, Turmeric and Raspberries. You can find the my David Nieper Competition portfolio here.
